Our Energise Your Email program shows participants how to apply our reader-centred writing process to email. It addresses the writer’s responsibility as a contributor to email overload. Participants leave with tools for managing the quality, quantity, and strategy of the email messages they send.

Course Description

One Session (2.5 hours):

  • Provide an overview of the core framework of the program: the Three Steps to Energised Email.
  • Introduce participants to the purpose and goals of the program and how it can benefit them personally.
  • Identify participants’ individual challenges and goals for improving their business emails.
  • Introduce the PLAN Sheet as a tool for articulating and analysing the goal, audience, key message, and delivery tactics of one’s email.
  • Apply the tool to a real business email deliverable to help participants immediately see the relevance to their own work.
  • Practice considering the audience and the intended impact when generating subject lines for email.
  • Promote a mindset shift in the way participants approach creating content, freeing them from writer’s block and empowering them to be more creative and audience-centred.
  • Introduce and practice a technique for generating relevant content quickly.
  • Understand how headlines guide readers to find the information they need.
  • Learn techniques for efficiently grouping ideas under headlines to simplify and organise content.
  • Sequence the sections of an email so that they grab the readers’ attention, guide them to follow the “story” of the message, and give them clear information about next steps, requests, and deadlines.
  • Learn a range of strategies for sequencing different types of emails.
  • Reinforce the benefits of using these techniques to save time and avoid misunderstanding.
  • Create drafts quickly and confidently by letting go of having to “get it right.”
  • Learn the value of getting distance between drafting and editing in order to have a fresh perspective.
  • Learn techniques for efficient editing that can simplify an email and elevate its level of polish and professionalism.
  • Use the EDIT checklist to evaluate the quality of an email and identify editing needs.
  • Support learning transfer by identifying next steps for applying the learning to upcoming emails.
  • Share final insights and takeaways amongst the group to reinforce key topics.
